Beach entries need to butt into an edge of some sort. They can not be half circles. They can be scalloped shaped or butt into an object such as a spa, planter, or natural rocks.
Bad Example
Good Example
Size
Minimum 12’ length for beach entry and tanning ledge.
The flat area for lounger is 7ft.
You should have at least 5ft. Before flat area. If they are less than 12ft. you won't fit a lounger.
Depth
6” depth is preferred unless you have a long run for the slope. You can go down to standard 10” sun shelf depth if you have a room for a long run.
If you use 6” depth, a light will not fit. In that case, make sure to include a LED bubbler to double as the light source.
Plaster
Plaster is not meant to be exposed to the air. It should always be under water. Therefore the coping or stone pavers with basecrete (2) coats beneath needs to extend down the slope of the beach entry. NO PLASTER IS TO BE EXPOSED. Terminate the hardscape or coping at 3” Water Depth. We have not always done this correctly in the past. Therefore, do not rely on pictures or plans from past beach entries we’ve built.
