How to Order Pool Engineering from Scott Vaughn

📌 Overview

Scott Vaughn, PE, handles our structural, piling, and hydraulic pool engineering. Orders typically go through email (cc Amber at amber@srvpe.com) and require a clear project address, design files (PDF + DWG), and any relevant site info. Be prepared to follow up regularly and clearly communicate any client-specific conditions.

✅ Steps to Order Pool Engineering

Finalize the plan set
Complete as much of the pool and deck layout as possible
Include any special features (spa, negative edge, raised wall, etc.)
Prepare both a PDF plan set and DWG files (pool layout and survey if available)
Check if a Geotechnical Report is needed
If wetlands or exposed beams exist, ask Scott whether a GeoTech report is required
Standard recommendation: soil borings to 25 ft depth
If a compaction test is all you have, confirm whether it suffices
Send the engineering request email
Include: Client name, property address, brief notes on special conditions
Attach: PDF plan set, DWG files, site survey (PDF & CAD), and soil report if available
Ask for: ETA and deposit amount
Pay deposit and track updates
Billing team pays the invoice to start
Scott typically sends a draft for review and final signed/sealed plan after revisions
Mark up and return redlines promptly if needed

Subject: Pool Engineering Order – [Client Last Name] Residence

Hi Scott and Amber,
We’d like to place a pool engineering order for:
**Client:**
**Address:**

Please find attached:
PDF plan set
DWG of pool layout
Site survey (PDF and DWG)
[Optional: Geotechnical report]

**Notes:**
The pool has a 22’ vanishing edge. We estimated 160 GPM — let us know if you recommend different pump sizing.
The rear pool beam will be exposed ~2’-6” above grade.
Still confirming final equipment location with client; you’ll see two options shown.

Please let us know the required deposit and your estimated turnaround. Let me know if you need anything else to get started.

Thanks!

Wetland boundary or top-of-bank (if applicable)
North arrow and scale bar

B. Pool Plan View

Light niches, skimmers, returns, autofill

C. Sections and Elevations

Pool shell depth diagram
Cross-section showing grade and beam elevation
Spa wall/spillover detail
Raised beams, vanishing edge, retaining walls

D. Hydraulic Notes

Desired flow rate (GPM) for features
Planned pump model(s) if known
Note if equipment is TBD

📐 DWG Checklist

DWG of pool layout (clean linework, labeled layers)
DWG of survey if available
Separate layers for shell, coping, deck, utilities (recommended)

🧠 Tips & Best Practices

If unsure, always ask Scott if GeoTech is needed before ordering it.
Don’t wait on GeoTech to send the order if the design is time-sensitive — Scott can often start with a note that soil report is coming.
Double-check the address on everything you send. Address mix-ups can delay engineering.
Mark up the draft PDF clearly if changes are needed — Scott’s team appreciates precise feedback.
Expect 1–2 weeks for initial delivery depending on project complexity and Scott’s workload.
