Show placement of kitchen in relationship to existing structure or proposed project
Indicate any important alignments
Appliance Layout
Create appliance layout
Verify appliances with invoice
Label all appliances
Verify cutout dimensions for width, height, and depth - turn on cutout layer to check
Indicate hinge side on working drawings
Ensure doors do not swing into steps or other obstructions. Door stops have approximate 120 degree range.
Add 3/4" to opening width for side by side refrigerator units
Wall Layout
Create wall layout
Indicate wall material
Add slope note. Indicate on the working drawings that plans do not factor in patio slope. Slope will require in field adjustments.
Add elevation callouts
Standard kitchen depth is 2'-2", Use 2'-4" depth for kitchens with appliances that require extra clearance such as Twin Eagles and BGE.
Wall Elevations
Create wall elevations
Standard heights: Counters = 36", Columns = 42", Back Wall = 42"
Verify and indicate countertop material. Thickness will affect vertical depth of cuts.
For access doors & under-counter storage units, place the top of the cutout at 23 5/8" to account for 3/8" steel. If the appliance is too large in height to be placed at 23 5/8", move it up in increments of 6".
Arrange appliances in a manner that reduces the amount of cuts required. Refer to wall material document for standard dimensions
Add note: *** PATIO SLOPE IS NOT FACTORED INTO BLOCK WORK DRAWINGS. IN FIELD ADJUSTMENTS WILL BE NECESSARY TO ACCOUNT FOR SLOPE. ***

Countertop Layout Checklist
Indicate finished face of kitchen
Show grill and side burner depth cuts from FINISHED FACE of kitchen. Add note: “NOTE: THIS MEASUREMENT IS FROM THE FINISHED FACE OF THE KITCHEN”
Show the width of the grill notches. Add 1/4” to the appliance width. So a 36” grill + 1/8” on either side for wiggle room =36 1/4” width for notches. Add note: “NOTE: WIDTH OF FRONT OPENING WITH NOTCHES”. Do not include measurement of each notch (i.e. 1/8”)
Show depth of overhang beyond the finished face of the kitchen. Add note: “NOTE: DEPTH OF OVERHANG BEYOND FINISHED FACE OF KITCHEN”. Do not add a total dimension of overhang and grill depth.

Standard Kitchen Dimensions
Heights
Counters - 36"
Columns - 42"
Standard counter depth: 2'-2", Large counter depth: 2'-4", Standard column width: 2'-2", Large column width: 2'-6"
Kitchens with sinks and/or refrigerators need minimum 3’-6” depth
Below are several illustrations that depict basic dimensions for our Standard & Beefed-Up Pergolas.
t
38" kitchens are used when larger appliances (Twin Eagles) have been selected by the client.
Existing Site Conditions
Existing site conditions
Is the kitchen butting up to existing walls or columns?
If so, countertops should be templated to factor out of square conditions
Back wall will not be built if ledger is possible
Patio slope
Indicate on the working drawings that plans do not factor in patio slope. Slope will require in field adjustments.
Kitchen Wall Material
For smooth products such as tile, the fridge will be wrapped. Enlarge wall opening to account for finish material thickness. Smooth veneer products will run up to door cutouts. The door will sit on top of the veneer.
For rough surface products such as stacked stone, the fridge opening will NOT be wrapped. It will be finished with stucco. You do NOT need to enlarge the wall opening. Rough veneer products will be installed after doors. Those products will butt into the doors.
Add additional depth to countertops to account for the thickness of the finish material.
Countertop overhang will be measured from wall finish material
Brick kitchens require additional support walls at large openings such as refrigerator openings.
For the fridge the support walls should be inset 1”
Failure to include support walls can cause wall to fail
Countertops
Countertop Material
Granite - 1 1/4" Thickness
Granite floating bars and bar overhangs must have double thickened edges
Concrete - 2" Thickness
Floating Bar (Concrete) - 3" Thickness
Countertop Edge Type
Indicate which edges receive a special edge type with red dotted line
Add additional 3/4" for bullnose edge
Granite floating bars and bar overhangs must have double thickened edges
Call out thickened edges on floating bars
Countertop Overhang
Indicate overhang
Standard overhang = 1 3/4"
HOT WATER- All sinks must have Hot water now with install and be tied into city sewer or septic.
Max Span
Max span for unsupported countertop is about 50”. So you can not have more than 2 refrigerators side by side.
When creating a cut out diagram for countertop slabs, run countertops lengthwise to follow grain. A countertop cut into sections should be from the same slab and following the same grain when possible.
Typically the max size of natural slab granite that's used for countertops is 118” x 76”. You’ll need to verify the specific slab the client has chosen to know for sure.
Indicate on the take off the number of slabs needed
Variables:
Search on UMI website for actual slabs available in Jacksonville. Take screenshot and use as a texture to see how grains can align. Let client know minimum slab size to make slab count work.
10" to 12" overhang. Could go as low as 8". Let client know the options
subtract 2" all the way around the slab to make sure you have useable material
Mitered Edge Countertops
Raise kitchen walls for 3” mitered countertop edge. Wall height = 36 1/4", Countertop height = 37 1/4”, Standard countertop front overhang = 2 3/4"
By default use 3" wide undercap lights
Countertops under power burners and BGE's do not have turn down edges. Should be standard 1 1/4" thickness.
Overhang for power burner and BGE drop downs should hug sides - 1 1/4" overhang instead of 2 3/4". Overhangs at end of kitchen should match front overhang of 2 3/4" when possible.
Plug countertop cutouts
Backspalsh
Indicate if a backsplash is included and what material is used
Backsplashes sit on top of countertops. Factor in depth of backsplash material when setting countertop depth. Make sure appliance have proper clearance.
Backsplashes sit on top of countertops. Factor in depth of backsplash material when setting countertop depth. Make sure appliance have proper clearance.
Will outlets be installed in the backsplash?
Outlets require minimum 12" high backsplash
Appliances
General
Verify cutout dimensions for width, height, and depth. See
Show all grill depth cut out dimensions from the notch NOT the front overhang of the granite
Arrange appliances in a manner that reduce the amount of cuts required.
Stonegate Kitchen
Access doors & under-counter storage units below a grill, side burner, or sink
Place the top of the cutout at 23 5/8" above the bottom of the first wall block course (not above pavers)
Access doors & under-counter storage units notbelow a grill or side burner
Place the top of the cutout at 29 5/8" above the bottom of the first wall block course (not above pavers)
Tall Dry Storage
No top course of Stonegate. Bottom cutout should be 33 1/4” down from the top of the top wall block course
Minimum Stonegate space between appliance cutouts = 4"
This applies to openings against columns as well. If there is no other choice, you can have opening start at columns edge, but a angle iron ledger will have to be installed. Avoid this if possible.
CMU Kitchen

). pointed out that the new Twin Eagle grills should have a 10.75 inch depth.
Refrigerators
Default refrigerator opening is 24 1/2” even thought cut sheet only calls for 24” rough opening. We add 1/4” on either side for wiggle room.
Default ice maker opening is 15 1/2” even thought cut sheet only calls for 15” rough opening. We add 1/4” on either side for wiggle room.
Add 1/4" to opening width for side by side refrigerator or ice maker units
Example. side by side refrigerators =48 3/4”, side by side refrigerator & ice maker =39 3/4”
Indicate hinge side.
Ensure doors do not swing into steps or other obstructions. Door stops have approximate 120 degree range.
Vent Hood
Vent hood must extend past front of grill. If vent hood doesn't extend past the front, you can adjust the kitchen depth or box out the vent hood by with framing behind the hood.
Standard Note:
Tradewinds Vent Hood - center of duct should not be more than 7.5” off mounting point. Verify with manufacturer specs.
It is better to vent through walls rather than roof when possible.
For roof vents you have to confirm that there is attic space and a spot to exit through the roof
Red flag for any roofing other than asphalt shingles.
