Pergola

Setbacks

Ideally, rafters and purlins are at least 12” off the edge of the roof
Duval County
Pergola posts must be 10’ from the residence, otherwise it is considered part of the residence and must meet primary setbacks, which is 5’ from the sides and 10’ from the rear in Duval.

Attached Pergola

If ledger is right under soffit - do not use double notch. Just notch beam, not rafters. This makes installation easier.
Use correct width - rough cut for cedar

Redesign

Redesign pergola due to warranty.
Don’t notch beam, just notch rafter. Dado is 2 5/16” by default.
Don’t toenail. Screw from top with timberlock
