Pergola/Cabana

How to Properly Cap off the Top of a Pergola Post with Copper or Aluminum Sheet Metal (How to properly bend it and install it)
How to Properly Install Synthetic Wrap around embedded post and Tape Off (Show them the Proper type of tape to use). All Tape/Synthetic to be a min. of 4" above the paver OR 1" below the top of the baseboard, whichever is greater.

Squaring/Layout

How to square up a Pool, Pergola, or Cabana AND Layout

Countertops

Countertop drawing should include more info to determine the number of slabs needed
Variables:
Search on UMI website for actual slabs available in Jacksonville. Take screenshot and use as a texture to see how grains can align. Let client know minimum slab size to make slab count work.
10" to 12" overhang. Could go as low as 8". Let client know the options
subtract 2" all the way around the slab to make sure you have useable material

Appliance Details

Update selection template:
Appliance door swings should be on take off and design guide per Mark Ruel
Appliances need to specify stainless steel vs glass door on appliances per Arthur
Byron to provide feedback on takeoffs in general
Don’t skip Site Prep
Make it automatically included
Use template - don’t create one off solutions

Pool Design and Construction

Beach Entry
Stone Pavers w/ Basecrete 2 coats beneath. NO PLASTER IS TO BE EXPOSED (Discuss Temporarily Using PermaKote instead of Basecrete)
Discuss proper application of Basecrete and PermaKote. Read manufacturer recommendations on mixing and application. Explain two colors.
Both Design & Build Process. (Reference Coupal and/or Conrad Design Guides)
Batter boards
Depends on superintendents checking on field guys doing the batter boards properly
Determine after design approval if we will provide batter board drawings
Main Drain Info
Start adding main drain info to table on pool permit drawing per Justin
Pool Remodels
Count main drains
Virginia Graham Act requires (2) main drains in every pool since 2007
Commercial pools definitely cannot be grandfathered into old code
Notate all fittings - returns, skimmers, etc.
Adding spa or tanning ledge requires a building permit. The pool will have to meet current code. Specifically, looking at main drains.
Pool working Drawings
Try to keep all relative information consolidated so field crew doesn’t have to flip between pages. For example all information needed to install batter boards needs to be on one page. Keep pages in sequential order of actual construction
Possibly review page order in Layout Template
Pool beam elevation should be on batter board page and forming page. Create standard chart that’s on as many pool drawing pages as possible.

Retaining Walls

CMU Retaining Wall Details / Measurements (Reference Cruz how to much footer heel width / footer sticking out beyond retaining) Cruz Detail A1. Also, half a course min. to be buried. I think we start providing elevations to top of block walls on all jobs and elevations to the top of the concrete footing.
Footing Layout/Placement & Footing Elevations (Should this be on our working drawings, similar to what we did on Justin Dennis & Mahony) - Again reference Cruz as the example as to why we need to do this.
You must complete hardscape elevations before calling out retaining wall and footer elevations
Footings for CMU Retaining Walls should ALWAYS be a minimum of 4” below grade (anywhere between 4"-8" below grade), increments of 4" since that is half of a CMU block.
Make sure design guide matches engineering

Safety

Parking with and without trailers
Utilizing traffic cones
Use a spotter when backing up

May 2024

Drainage

Possibly do this meeting or save for next training. Or just very basic overview for this meeting
Adam to do presentation
Jack to capture presentation and create wiki

Ventilation

Anything that uses gas needs ventilation
Calculate by sq. inches.
We have vents that we’ve already made
Fridge openings can serve as ventilation per Ed
Outdoor Kitchen Vents should be added to plans
Outdoor Kitchen ventilation (Drawing in the Vents / locations on Plans)
We should add ventilation to all kitchens at the bottom
Need cross ventilation
Derek to send ventilation info:
